ABOUT OUR SHED
Macmerry Men’s Shed opened its doors to the community in 2013. The driving force behind our success is our members, and our Shed is one of the most welcoming places in East Lothian.
Everybody here has a story and their own personal reasons for joining. Some members were professional tradesmen during their working lives, while others had never picked up a tool until they arrived at the Shed. Some still don’t pick up a tool, instead they come for a chat or to have a few games of pool. We don’t judge, we make friendships. We’ve created a space where you feel like you belong. Whatever your background, we support each other any way we can.
It’s both an honour and privilege to spend time with the most amazing bunch of guys at our Shed. I’ve seen so many members come such a long way on their personal journey. Whatever their story may be, it doesn’t matter, we’re here for each and every one of them.
STUART MACKENZIE, CHAIR
A normal day at the Shed begins around 11:00 am and that’s when the kettle is boiled. We all sit down for a good old blether with a tea, coffee and a biscuit. After that, the guys splinter off – pun intended – and start doing whatever they want to do. Some members will work away on projects for themselves or for the Shed, while others will set the pool table up. For those not working, they will happily sit and chat away to each other, probably over another cuppa. You’re free to relax and be yourself in our Shed. That’s the whole point.
The beauty of our Shed is that each time you visit you can do as much or as little as you wish. We never judge – unless, of course, you take the last chocolate biscuit. Then you’re on your own!
What our members say
I love going to the Shed for the company and the banter. It also keeps my brain working and gives me a sense of purpose and a reason to get up in the morning. I just love it.

SHED MEMBER
The Shed has been a vital lifeline for me as I struggled with my health after retiring from the building trade. I’d find it hard to cope without it now.
